The Fall Round in the Eastern Townships: Eighteen Points Before First Frost
What must be done before mid-November here, and why the date differs from Montreal.
Sherbrooke · Eastern Townships · no travel charge
Fourteen services, from the handle that comes off in your hand to the grab bar anchored into structure. Written price before starting, and a clear line on what we do not do.
Our services
Most visits combine several. That is the point of a handyman: one mobilization for what would otherwise take three trades.
The little-jobs list that has been sitting for eight months, cleared in one visit.
Assembly, wall anchoring and rescue of furniture already put together wrong.
TVs, heavy mirrors, frames and shelves fixed into structure, not just drywall.
Holes, cracks and telegraphing seams, redone to vanish under paint.
One room, one door frame, one stained ceiling: jobs too small for a painter.
Doors that rub, loose handles, stuck windows and worn weatherstripping.
Closets, garage shelving and built-ins fixed to hold the real load.
Faucets, slow drains and running toilets, within what is allowed without a licence.
Fixtures, fans and detectors, with a clear line on when a master electrician is called.
Tub, shower, counter and window perimeters redone with the right product in the right place.
Properly anchored grab bars, thresholds, handrails and compliant detectors.
Soft boards, popped screws, wobbly railings and stairs needing rework.
Loose siding, screens, house numbers, sheds and leaning fence sections.
The fall round and the spring round, done completely rather than halfway.
How we work
Travel, getting tools out, laying protection and packing up are paid on every visit, whether there is one item or twelve. It is a fixed cost, and it is absorbed once when the work is batched.
Dead time also disappears: while drywall compound dries in the hallway, the garage shelving goes up. On a dedicated visit, that drying would force waiting or a second trip.
Read the full articleNote each irritant as you notice it, trivial ones included. When the list reaches eight or ten, it is time to call.
We see the list, estimate the duration and give the price in writing. Anything beyond our scope is flagged then, not afterward.
What needs drying goes first, the rest happens meanwhile. That is what allows clearing twelve items in half a day.
What was done, what we found along the way and what needs watching. You do not start from zero next season.
Areas served
The plaster on lath in the Vieux-Nord has nothing to do with the roof trusses in Ascot Corner. Each area page explains what the local building stock changes.
Client reviews
I had a list of eleven things piled up since moving in. All done the same day, and he showed me which ones I could handle myself next time.
The 65-inch TV is anchored into the studs, not just the drywall. He took the time to find the structure instead of trusting the stud finder on the first pass.
The grab bars in my mother's bathroom actually hold. The previous person had screwed them into drywall only and I did not even know.

Travel and setup are paid on every visit. Here is how a ten-item list costs less than three visits of three items.
Frequently asked
Yes, one hour, as everywhere in the trade. That is exactly why building a list pays: the first hour is billed regardless, so it may as well serve eight items rather than one.
Hourly, with the rate stated before we start and the estimated duration given after seeing the list. Common hardware is billed at cost with no markup. The invoice matches the estimate.
Anything requiring a licence we do not hold: electrical panels, new circuits, piping inside walls, gas, roofing and load-bearing structure. We say so on the phone rather than once we are on site.
Yes, ten municipalities across the Eastern Townships with no travel charge, from Magog to East Angus. For outlying properties we suggest batching the work, since travel is absorbed once per visit.
Always. Dust vacuumed, offcuts collected, old parts taken away if you do not want them. A visit that leaves a mess to clean is not finished.
