Driveways, parking lots, roofs and ice: how each service actually works, what a serious contract should state, and the questions to ask before signing with anyone.
What a good contract should state
Common industry benchmarks. Actual terms vary between contractors: have them written into your own quote.
What we do
Clearing a driveway and steaming a roof need neither the same equipment nor the same judgement. Here is what each service actually involves, so you know which one to ask for.
Driveway cleared before you leave in the morning, on a seasonal contract with a written trigger depth.

Parking lots, loading docks and pedestrian access cleared before opening, with a timestamped log.

Snow load removed by shovel and roof rake, without ever scraping the membrane or the shingles.

Ice dams melted with low-pressure steam, the only method that leaves the roofing intact.

Learn more →How it works
A serious contractor comes out to measure the driveway, spot the obstacles that need staking and determine where snow can be piled without blocking a window or a dryer vent.
Trigger depth, time of the first pass, passes per storm, seasonal price. The more of these are put in numbers, the less room is left for interpretation in February.
Reflective stakes installed before the first snow, along the driveway and in front of anything that protrudes. That is what prevents the lawn damage discovered in March.
Passes follow the agreed trigger. A major storm normally calls for one pass so you can get out, then a final pass once the snow has stopped.
How to recognize a good contractor
The real test is not the first December storm. It is the third February one, when the banks are high, the equipment is tired and everyone's phone rings at once. Here are the criteria that tell you in October who will still be there by then.
Territory covered by this site
A contractor promising three MRCs arrives on time nowhere during a real storm. That is a question worth asking before signing. This site covers eight areas within 35 km of Sherbrooke.
Three inches overnight and the driveway was done when I got up at 6 a.m. Exactly what the contract said, and it held all season.
They refused to go up on my roof until the ice was steamed off. The previous contractor reached for an axe. Two cracked shingles.
The timestamped log of every visit settled an insurance claim in two emails. That is what makes the difference for a business.
My old contractor stopped showing up in February. Nordet took over within 24 hours, without charging a panic price.
They told me my roof did not need clearing, and why. No invoice that day. I have been calling them back ever since.
Forty centimetres on a Sunday. They came through twice, once during and once after. The daycare lot opened on time Monday.
